TL;DR SLIM Sri Lanka is the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing, the not-for-profit national body for marketers. It was established in 1970, was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1980, and teaches part-time marketing certificates and diplomas, a postgraduate diploma, and Chartered Institute of Marketing classes. Uplift lists the institute and shows the marketing degrees you can compare it with.
If you want a marketing career without committing to a full degree first, SLIM is one of the first names you will meet. This guide explains what it offers, who can enter and how it differs from a degree. You can browse the marketing programs in the wider business study area alongside it.
What is SLIM Sri Lanka and what does it do?
SLIM describes itself as the national body for marketing in Sri Lanka and the apex body for Sri Lankan marketers. It is a not-for-profit organisation with a mandate to advance the marketing profession, and its address is 94 Ananda Rajakaruna Mawatha, Colombo 10. Our SLIM Business School page on Uplift summarises its programs.
SLIM is a professional body and business school, not a university. Its certificates and diplomas are its own awards, and it also runs classes for outside qualifications that it names on its pages.

What does SLIM teach?
SLIM's offer runs from entry-level certificates up to a postgraduate diploma.
Certificates
Entry-level marketing certificates include versions taught in Sinhala and Tamil and an online format. The Professional Certificate in Marketing is offered in Sinhala and in Tamil, each over three months part-time, plus an online English version, as SLIM states.
Diplomas and specialised programs
Diplomas cover sales management, brand management, digital marketing, pharmaceutical marketing and English. Specialised programs include the Certified Brand Strategist.
Postgraduate diploma and outside qualifications
SLIM states that its Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Management is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute, UK, at Level 7. It also runs Chartered Institute of Marketing classes in Colombo and Kandy and offers a professional status qualification conferred by the Asia Marketing Federation.
Who can enter SLIM programs?
Entry is usually by age and experience. The certificates list age 16 or above, while diplomas and specialised programs often combine O/L or A/L passes with sales or marketing experience. Some programs, such as the Certificate in Pharmaceutical Marketing, have extra conditions.
Most SLIM programs are short and part-time. Certificates run for roughly three to six months, diplomas for six to twelve months, and the postgraduate diploma is an 18-month part-time program. SLIM's enquiry forms offer branches including Colombo, Matara, Kandy and Kurunegala, but the program pages do not say which branch runs each course. SLIM also notes that accredited study centres around the island provide lectures for the Sinhala and Tamil certificates. Fees and intake dates are not published on the program pages, so ask SLIM on 011 227 4040 before you apply.
