TL;DR ISMM Sri Lanka is the Institute of Supply and Materials Management, the professional institute for purchasing, logistics and supply chain practitioners. It was set up in 1972, was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1981, and awards its own diplomas and certificates, mostly in weekend classes in Colombo. Uplift lists the institute and shows the logistics programs you can compare it with.

If you work in procurement, stores or logistics, or plan to, you will meet ISMM early. This guide explains how it is organised, how classes run, and how a professional diploma differs from a degree. You can browse the logistics and supply chain programs in the wider business study area alongside it.

What is ISMM Sri Lanka and who is it for?

ISMM was established on 24 October 1972, after senior purchasing and materials executives met to propose an institute for their profession. It was formally inaugurated in early 1973, and Act No. 3 of 1981 incorporated it. Its registered office is in the OPA Building, Colombo 07.

ISMM states that it is registered with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, known as TVEC, under reference P01/0160, and that it is a member of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management. It is a professional institute, not a university, and it awards its own qualifications and Corporate Membership. Our ISMM institute page on Uplift summarises its programs.

Postgraduate supply chain and management programs on Uplift

What does ISMM teach?

ISMM arranges its programs in levels, from short certificates up to a postgraduate diploma.

Postgraduate and graduate diplomas

At the top is the Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Supply Chain Management. Below it sits the Graduate Diploma in Procurement and Supply Chain Management.

Advanced diplomas and short courses

Advanced Diplomas cover Logistics and Warehouse Management and Procurement and Logistics Management. Management-level courses cover procurement, stores, supply chain and international trade, and a certificate course covers store keeping. Many programs are offered in both English and Sinhala.

How do ISMM classes, fees and entry work?

Classes run from the Professional Centre in the OPA Building, Colombo 07. Most diplomas and courses meet at weekends. The Postgraduate Diploma, Supply Chain Analytics and Import and Export Procedures are delivered online through Zoom.

Each program page lists batch codes, commencement dates and a named program officer. You apply through the Apply Now link on the program page and pay registration and module fees through the Pay Online section of ISMM's website.

Diploma fees are split into a non-refundable registration fee, an initial payment before the course starts, and a module fee before each later module. ISMM lists the Postgraduate Diploma in two instalments of Rs. 100,000 and Rs. 80,000, and management-level and certificate courses at a single fee of Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000. ISMM does not publish scholarships or bank loan schemes on the pages Uplift reviewed. Intakes, fees and entry rules change between batches, so confirm them with ISMM on +94 112 555 562 before you pay.

How does an ISMM diploma compare with a logistics degree?

An ISMM diploma is a part-time professional award aimed at people who already work in supply chains. A degree is an academic award from a university or degree-awarding institute and can be studied full-time.

ISMM says its Graduate Diploma, plus three years of executive experience, qualifies you for Corporate Membership, and that the Government treats this as equal to an honours degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management under Ministry of Public Administration Circular No. 46/90(i). That is ISMM's own statement, so confirm it with ISMM and with your employer before you rely on it.

For a postgraduate route at a partner campus, the Postgraduate Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Achievers International Campus runs for 6 months. It is an OTHM Level 7 qualification described as equivalent to a master's degree, and it asks for any bachelor's degree, or at least 5 years of work experience including 2 years in management, plus a C pass in O/L English.

Our guides to logistics and supply chain management in Sri Lanka and the postgraduate project management routes cover the degree and master's side. If you are weighing other professional bodies, see how AAT in Sri Lanka is structured, or read our overview of Achievers International Campus.
