TL;DR A Dalhousie University degree in Sri Lanka starts at Universal College Lanka, where Uplift's records describe a Canadian computing degree pathway. Students study the first two years in Sri Lanka and complete the degree at Dalhousie University in Canada. This guide covers the structure, entry rules and modules as listed on Uplift, and what to confirm with the college.
If you finish your A/Ls with a computing goal and want a pathway that begins at home, this program is worth a closer look. The guide explains how it is built and who can apply, and you can apply now from the program page. You can browse more computing programs and the information technology programs on Uplift as well.
What is the Dalhousie University degree in Sri Lanka?
Universal College Lanka, known as UCL, lists a Bachelor of Applied Computer Science and a Bachelor of Computer Science that are linked to Dalhousie University in Canada. Uplift's records describe a partnership under which UCL students take the first two years in Sri Lanka and then enter the third year of the matching program at Dalhousie. The degree itself is a Dalhousie award.
The Uplift program page for the Bachelor of Applied Computer Science at Universal College Lanka lists the program as 4 years, full-time. Our UCL institute page shows its other programs.
How is the program structured?
The program record gives the pattern in plain terms.
Years in Sri Lanka
The first two years are studied at UCL. UCL's intakes are listed as September, January and May.
Years at Dalhousie
On completion, students gain entry into the third year of the matching program at Dalhousie University. Transfer intakes to Canada are listed as September and January. Because the later years are studied abroad as part of the program structure, ask UCL what the transfer involves and what the later years cost, since Uplift does not list fees for this program.
What are the entry requirements?
The record lists two routes. For the Sri Lanka A/L route, applicants need five subjects at the O/L and two A/L subjects with a grade of C. For the London or Cambridge A-Level route, five subjects are needed overall, including two A-Levels or four AS levels with grades of C.
English must be shown at grade B in O/L, IGCSE or GCSE English, in an A-Level, or by another method that Dalhousie approves. Mathematics differs by degree. The Bachelor of Computer Science asks for A-Level Mathematics at grade C, while the Bachelor of Applied Computer Science asks for Mathematics at O/L, IGCSE or GCSE level at grade C. These rules come from the program record, so confirm them with UCL before you apply.
What will you study?
The record lists modules that carry Dalhousie course codes, quoted from the Dalhousie calendar. Early modules include Introduction to Computer Programming, Introduction to Computer Science, Introduction to Computer Systems, and Introduction to Web Design and Development. Later ones include Data Structures and Algorithms, Software Development, Introduction to Database Systems, Introduction to Information Security, and Practical Data Science.
The applied degree also lists project modules, Introduction to Software Projects and an Introductory Project in which teams solve a practical problem for a community group. Supporting modules cover Calculus in Computer Science, Discrete Math, Probability and Statistics, and management topics such as organisational behaviour. Modules and their order can change, so ask UCL for the current plan.
