TL;DR You can study digital marketing in Sri Lanka at several levels. KIU University offers an online short course for beginners with no entry qualification. Universal College Lanka offers an MSc in Digital Marketing Communications for graduates. In between are marketing degrees, an HND and an MBA with a marketing specialisation. Choose by your starting point and how much time you can give.

Digital marketing covers search, social media, email, web analytics and paid advertising. Many marketing roles now use these channels, and the courses to learn them range from a few months to a full degree. This guide sorts the options on Uplift by level so you can find the right starting point.

Start with a short course

The Certificate in Digital Business Developer at KIU University is an intensive 3-month online short course run through the Department of Marketing. The page lists these modules:

  • Introduction to Digital Marketing and Digital Marketing Channels

  • Using Websites for Digital Marketing and SEO Optimization

  • Google AdWords

  • Facebook Campaigns, Instagram and Business Opportunities, Business Tools on LinkedIn and YouTube Marketing

  • Email Marketing and Introduction to Web Analytics

  • Creating a Digital Marketing Plan and Digital Marketing in Practice

Entry is open from age 16, and no prior academic qualifications are required. It suits school leavers, small business owners and professionals who want practical skills quickly. Intake dates are shown on the course page when the institute publishes them.

Move to a degree or HND

If you want marketing as a career path, a degree or HND gives you broader business knowledge alongside the digital skills.

  • BA (Hons) in Marketing at ESOFT Uni, awarded by London Metropolitan University. It is listed as 3 years full-time at LKR 1,620,000 total tuition.

  • BSc (Hons) B&M Marketing at Asian Institute of Business and Science, awarded by Edge Hill University and listed as 3 years full-time.

  • BSc (Hons) Business and Marketing at Universal College Lanka, listed as 3 years full-time.

  • Bachelor of Management Honours in Marketing at KIU University, listed as 4 years full-time.

  • BTEC HND in Marketing at Asian Institute of Business and Science, 3 years in hybrid mode.

Our guide to the marketing degree in Sri Lanka compares these routes in detail.

Go further with a master's

The MSc in Digital Marketing Communications at Universal College Lanka is listed as 12 months full-time at LKR 748,000 total tuition. The page says it is delivered in partnership with the University of Lancashire (UK). It covers digital marketing communication theory and strategy, social media and search engine marketing, and consumer psychology in the digital era, and ends with an independent research project.

Entry asks for a bachelor's degree with at least a second class lower division. A professional qualification equal to a UK degree (CIM, SLIM, CIMA or ACCA) can also qualify, as can relevant work experience under the conditions on the page.

If you prefer a broader management degree, ESOFT Uni lists a Master of Business Administration (Marketing) from London Metropolitan University at LKR 790,000 total tuition, in hybrid mode. Read our MBA routes guide to see how it fits among other MBAs.

How to choose

The three levels are not a ladder you must climb in order. A working marketer with a degree can go straight to the master's, and a school leaver can take the short course while waiting for A/L results. Our guide on what to do while waiting for A/L results shows how short courses fit that gap.

Match the course to where you are today:

  1. No qualifications yet, or a small business to grow: start with the short course.

  2. Finished A/Ls and planning a career in marketing: look at the degree and HND routes.

  3. Already a graduate or a working marketer: look at the MSc or the MBA.

Then check the fee, the study mode and the entry rules on each course page. Differences between programs are about fit: the short course is practical and quick, the degree is broad, and the master's is strategic and research-led.

FAQ

Yes. The KIU University certificate asks for no prior academic qualifications and a minimum age of 16.

Is the MSc open to non-marketing graduates?

The page asks for a bachelor's degree with at least a second class lower division, so a graduate from another field can apply. Confirm with Universal College Lanka whether your degree is accepted.

Not always. A degree is one route, and relevant work experience is another under the conditions on the page.

Which tools does the short course cover?

The module list names SEO, Google AdWords, Facebook and Instagram campaigns, LinkedIn, YouTube, email marketing and web analytics.

PS. Choose the level that matches your starting point, open its course page and check the fee, duration and entry rule before you apply. If you want a quick, practical start, open the Certificate in Digital Business Developer at KIU University.
