TL;DR: A project management course in Sri Lanka usually sits at postgraduate level. Achievers International Campus lists an MSc Project Management that is accredited by the Association for Project Management, and ESOFT Uni lists an MSc in Management in Construction. Entry rules differ, so check them against your degree and experience first.

Project managers plan work, control costs and deliver results on time. The skills apply in construction, engineering, IT and many other fields. That makes project management a common choice for graduates and working professionals who want to move up. This guide covers the routes listed on Uplift and what to check before you apply.

What project management study involves

Project management programs teach how to scope a project, manage risk, handle contracts and procurement, and lead a team. Some programs use engineering examples. Others use general business cases. The course page tells you which one you are signing up for.

Most programs listed here are postgraduate, so they assume a first degree or solid work experience. If you do not have either yet, start with a business or engineering degree and return to this topic later. Our master's degree guide shows other postgraduate routes.

Postgraduate business and management programs

MSc Project Management at Achievers International Campus

The MSc Project Management runs for 12 months. The course page says it is accredited by the Association for Project Management. It places a strong emphasis on engineering and industrial sectors, and the skills carry across industries.

Modules listed on the page include Research Methods, Project Procurement and Contracts, Engineering Project Management and Operations Engineering and Logistics, plus an Individual Masters Project.

The entry rule is any UK bachelor honours degree or equivalent, or evidence of industrial experience in a relevant area. You also need a C pass in O/L English and Mathematics, or an equivalent. A fee is not listed today, so ask the campus for the current figure.

MSc Management in Construction at ESOFT Uni

If your background is in the built environment, the MSc Management in Construction is awarded by Kingston University (UK) and delivered part-time. The page lists total tuition of LKR 840,000 and an application fee of LKR 25,000.

It suits graduates in civil engineering, construction, architecture, quantity surveying or a related field, with a minimum second class honours degree or equivalent. Professional experience in construction is an advantage. Modules include Estimating, Tendering and Procurement, Management of Project Risk, Quality and Safety, and Administration of Construction Contracts, and the program ends with a dissertation.

Read our quantity surveying degree guide if you are still choosing your first degree.

Related management programs

Some management programs include project and operations content without the project management title.

Our MBA guide and the postgraduate diploma guide explain how these steps connect.

How to choose

  • You have an engineering or industrial background and want a formal qualification: look at the MSc Project Management.

  • You work in construction or a related field: look at the MSc Management in Construction.

  • You manage a team and want a shorter step first: look at the postgraduate diploma.

  • You already hold a postgraduate qualification: ask about the MBA top-up.

Check the accreditation wording

Accreditation by a professional body is written on the course page. Read what it covers, then ask the campus whether it applies to the award itself or to specific modules.

Think about the time

A 12-month full-time MSc is a heavy commitment, while a part-time program spreads the same effort over a longer period. Ask each institute for the weekly schedule, and check that it fits your job before you pay any deposit.

Check the entry route carefully

Several programs accept experience in place of a degree. Ask what evidence the institute wants, such as employer letters, so you can prepare it before you apply.
