TL;DR. ESOFT Uni offers the London Metropolitan University MBA in Hospitality Management in Colombo, as a part-time programme with weekend and blended learning. The total tuition fee is LKR 790,000. You need a relevant degree or professional qualification, and typically two or more years of hospitality or managerial experience.

Apply now or read the programme page: MBA in Hospitality Management at ESOFT Uni.

Hospitality managers learn the business on the floor, in kitchens, front desks and event teams. The step into general management then asks for different skills: strategy, finance, marketing and managing people across a whole property or group. An MBA that is specialised for hospitality is built for exactly that step, and a part-time format lets you keep working while you study.

What this MBA is

The programme is a 180-credit MBA awarded by London Metropolitan University, UK, and delivered locally by ESOFT Uni. The course page states that the full 180-credit MBA is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It combines postgraduate management study with a hospitality specialisation.

All assessments are assignment-based, with no traditional examinations. The course page says this keeps the learning practical and skill-oriented, guided by an industry-approved academic panel.

Other MBAs at ESOFT Uni

ESOFT Uni lists MBAs with different specialisations. The programs below show the options at the same institute, so you can see how the hospitality version sits next to the others.

What you will study

The course page lists eight compulsory modules.

  • Leadership and Strategic Management

  • People and Organizations: Principles and Practices in Global Contexts

  • Accounting and Finance for Managers

  • Marketing, Marketing Communications and Operations

  • Management Learning and Research

  • Strategy in Hospitality Management

  • Project and Quality Management for Hospitality and Leisure

  • Business Research Project

Where the hospitality focus comes in

Two modules carry the specialisation directly: Strategy in Hospitality Management, and Project and Quality Management for Hospitality and Leisure. The rest are core MBA subjects, so you graduate with general management training applied to hospitality.

The final project

The Business Research Project is an applied piece of work on a real-world hospitality challenge. If you already work in a hotel, resort, restaurant group or events business, a problem from your own organisation makes the project more useful to your employer.

Who can apply

The course page lists these entry requirements.

  • A relevant undergraduate degree or an equivalent professional qualification.

  • Relevant work experience in hospitality or a managerial role, typically two or more years.

  • English language proficiency may be required. No test or score is named, so confirm this with ESOFT Uni.

The wording "typically" means the experience expectation is a guide. If you are close but short, ask before ruling yourself out.

Fees and how to plan the cost

The Uplift catalogue lists a total local tuition fee of LKR 790,000 and an application fee of LKR 20,000. The course page notes that monthly instalment plans may be available, with conditions. Ask for the instalment terms in writing and check what each payment covers.

Intake dates move from year to year. Check the course page for the current date and application deadline rather than relying on one you saw earlier.

Study mode and flexibility

The programme is part-time, with weekly, monthly and blended learning options on the course page. The campus on the intake record is in Colombo. For a shift-based hospitality worker, the flexible schedule is the main practical question, so ask ESOFT Uni which option suits your rota.

UK graduation and alumni

Graduates may attend the graduation ceremony in the UK, and join the alumni networks of both ESOFT and London Metropolitan University, according to the course page. Treat the ceremony as optional and check the cost of travel yourself.

Is it the right time for an MBA?

A hospitality manager does not always need an MBA to run a department. The qualification matters when you want to move up to general manager, multi-property or corporate roles, where owners and boards expect strategy, finance and marketing skills. If that is your target, the MBA gives you a recognised credential and a structured way to learn it.

If you are earlier in your career, a bachelor's degree in hospitality or a few more years of operational experience may be a better first step. The programs listed at the end of this article include undergraduate options.

Preparing your application

Bring your degree certificate or professional qualification, a current CV that shows your hospitality or managerial years, and a short statement of why you want the MBA. A line on the business problem you hope to work on for the Business Research Project shows you have thought about the programme.

Careers this MBA points toward

The course page names roles such as Hospitality General Manager, Hotel Operations Director, Hospitality Strategic Manager, Leisure and Tourism Manager and Food and Beverage Director, across hospitality and tourism. These are targets the programme supports. The route into them still depends on your experience and the roles open in the market.

Hospitality programs on Uplift

If you are earlier in your career, these hospitality programs are listed on Uplift at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Questions to ask before you apply

  1. Does my experience meet the typical two years of hospitality or managerial work?

  2. Which learning option suits my work schedule?

  3. What are the current intake and application dates?

  4. What do the monthly instalments cover, and what conditions apply?

PS. If you manage a team already, write down the one business problem you want to solve with this MBA. It will guide your project choice later. Apply now when you are ready.
