TL;DR: A hotel management degree in Sri Lanka prepares you for supervisory and management roles in hotels, resorts and travel. Uplift lists two undergraduate routes: a three-year BA (Hons) in Hospitality Management at Esoft Uni, awarded by London Metropolitan University, and a hotel and resort management pathway at Universal College Lanka. An MBA in hospitality management is listed for working professionals. Check entry rules, structure and full fees before you apply.

Tourism is growing again. In its latest Year in Review, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority recorded 2,362,521 tourist arrivals, a 15.1% increase on the year before, and 59,578 rooms across 4,927 registered accommodation establishments.

Every one of those hotels, guest houses and resorts needs people who can run front office, food and beverage, housekeeping, events and guest experience. A hotel management degree is how many of those managers start. This guide explains what you will study, compares the programs on Uplift and shows how a career can grow inside Sri Lanka.

What you study

Hotel and hospitality degrees combine practical operations with business management. Expect a mix of:

  • Hotel operations: front office, housekeeping, food and beverage service and kitchen management.

  • Business subjects: accounting, marketing, human resource management and revenue management.

  • Guest experience: service quality, events and customer relationships.

  • Leadership: strategy, people management and, in later years, a research or industry project.

Most programs build in practical training, because employers want graduates who have worked in a real hotel.
