TL;DR. The international hotel and resort management degree at Universal College Lanka in Sri Lanka is a pathway program: Year 1 is the Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC in Hospitality Management at UCL in Sri Lanka, and Years 2 and 3 lead to a Bachelor of Business at Torrens University Australia. The course page lists Year 1 tuition of LKR 900,000 and asks for two A/L passes plus an O/L pass in Mathematics, or an approved foundation route.
Apply nowHospitality students often want a degree with international standing but a first year close to home. This guide explains the UCL program from its course page, including how the pathway is structured, so you can decide whether it suits you.
What is the international hotel and resort management degree at UCL?
The Bachelor of Business (International Hotel and Resort Management) is offered through Universal College Lanka in partnership with the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School at Torrens University Australia. The course page lists it as a three-year program built as a 1+2 pathway. It sits in the business study area, under hospitality and tourism.
How does the 1+2 pathway work?
The structure is part of the program itself. In Year 1 you complete the Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Hospitality Management at UCL in Sri Lanka. You then transfer to Torrens University Australia to complete the Bachelor of Business over Years 2 and 3. The course page says the final degree is awarded by Torrens University Australia through its Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School.
This means part of the study happens overseas. If you want to remain in Sri Lanka for the whole degree, our guide to the hotel management degree in Sri Lanka shows the routes that are delivered locally.
What will you study in Year 1?
The Year 1 units on the course page are:
The Contemporary Hospitality Industry
Managing the Customer Experience
Sustainable Hospitality Practice
The Hospitality Business Toolkit
Leadership and Management for Hospitality
Managing Food and Beverage Operations
Managing Front Office Operations
Professional Identity and Practice
The page does not list the Year 2 and Year 3 units, so ask UCL or Torrens University for the full study plan.
Who can join the program?
The course page asks you to meet one academic route and one English route.
Academic routes: two A/L passes plus an O/L pass in Mathematics, or completion of NCC Level 3 Foundation, or a Pearson BTEC Level 3 qualification in hospitality, or an approved foundation-level or higher qualification completed in Sri Lanka.
English routes: an O/L credit or above in English, or PTE Academic 51, or IELTS 5.5.
The page does not say which qualifications count as approved foundation-level, so confirm yours with UCL before you apply. Our guides to the NCC International Foundation Year at UCL and the British Foundation Programme at UCL describe two ways in.
