TL;DR: An entrepreneurship course in Sri Lanka can be a short online certificate that asks for no prior qualification, or a business HND that asks for A/L passes. Both are listed on Uplift. Choose the certificate to test the idea, or the HND if you want a full business qualification that can lead on to a degree.
Starting a business is easier when you know how to plan, price and market what you sell. Many students and young adults want that knowledge but are unsure where to get it locally. This guide looks at the entrepreneurship and small business routes listed on Uplift, who each one suits and what to check before you apply.
What an entrepreneurship course should cover
A useful course teaches you to turn an idea into a working business. That means business planning, marketing, finance and growth, plus the habit of testing an idea before you spend money on it. Some courses focus on one skill, such as digital marketing. Others cover the whole picture of running a small business.
Read the module list and the learning outcomes on each course page. They tell you quickly whether a course is practical or theory-heavy.
The HND route
Colombo International Campus lists the HND in Business (Entrepreneurship and Small Businesses). It runs for 18 months in a hybrid format at the Colombo campus. The course page describes a hands-on approach where you develop your own business idea through projects and simulations.
The academic criteria are any stream with at least two A/L passes, or an internationally recognised foundation qualification in business or a related field. IELTS or PTE is not mandatory for entry. A fee is not listed on the page today, so ask the campus for the current figure and keep it in writing.
If you would rather focus on running larger teams, the same campus lists an HND in Business (Business Management) with the same entry rule. Our HND guide explains how an HND connects to a degree, and the business management degree guide shows the next step.
The short certificate route
KIU University lists the Certificate in Digital Business Developer. It is a three-month online course offered through the Department of Marketing. Applicants must be 16 or older, and no prior academic qualification is required.
The course covers digital marketing strategy and planning and social media marketing across key platforms. It suits someone who already has a product or service and wants to reach customers online. Intake dates change through the year, so confirm the next intake on the course page.

Degree routes for founders
If you want a longer academic base, a business degree can include entrepreneurship modules. Nawaloka College of Higher Studies lists a Bachelor of Business with a choice to major in Management or Marketing. The page says it prepares students to grow a family business, launch a start-up or build a corporate career. The entry rule is completion of the Sri Lankan A/Ls or an equivalent qualification.
