TL;DR: A postgraduate diploma in Sri Lanka can take as little as six months and lead straight into an MBA top-up. Achievers International Campus lists three OTHM Level 7 postgraduate diplomas on Uplift, in strategic management and leadership, accounting and finance, and logistics and supply chain management. Each is 120 credits. You need a degree, or 5 years of work experience with 2 in management.

You have been working for a few years. You want a master's level qualification, but a two-year MBA feels like too big a jump right now. Or you never finished a degree, yet you have run teams for years. A postgraduate diploma is built for exactly this gap.

This guide explains what a Level 7 postgraduate diploma is, which ones you can find on Uplift, and how one can turn into an MBA.

The three diplomas on Uplift

All three are listed by Achievers International Campus, at 6 months each. Each has six compulsory modules in its first semester, and every one includes a research methods module that prepares you for the dissertation stage that follows.

What a Level 7 postgraduate diploma is

The postgraduate diplomas on Uplift are OTHM Level 7 Diplomas. OTHM is a UK awarding body, and its qualifications are approved and regulated by Ofqual, the qualifications regulator in England.

Level 7 sits at master's degree level on the UK's Regulated Qualifications Framework. Each diploma is worth 120 credits. According to OTHM's specification for the strategic management diploma, that represents 1,200 hours of total study time, with 600 guided learning hours.

The key point: the Achievers course records say you can complete a full master's or MBA by adding a 60-credit dissertation stage at a university.

Who can get in

Entry is the same for all three diplomas:

  • Any bachelor's degree, or

  • At least 5 years of work experience, including 2 years at managerial level,

  • Plus a C pass in O/L English, or equivalent.

That second route is what makes these diplomas stand out. If you lead a team at a bank, a factory or a logistics firm but never completed a degree, your experience can count.

From diploma to MBA

Here is how the route fits together on Uplift.

  1. Postgraduate diploma, 6 months, 120 credits. Complete one of the three OTHM Level 7 diplomas.

  2. MBA top-up, 6 months. Achievers lists an MBA (Top Up) awarded by the University of Portsmouth. It asks for a postgraduate diploma of 120 credits and at least 2 years of managerial or supervisory experience.

  3. The top-up itself is a research proposal worth 20% and a final dissertation worth 80%, in one semester.

OTHM's own specification confirms that learners who complete the diploma are eligible to progress to an MBA top-up with advanced standing.

So in about a year, in two clear stages, you can move from a working manager to an MBA holder, each stage with its own certificate. Confirm with Achievers that the diploma you choose is accepted for the Portsmouth top-up before you begin.

Who this route suits

  • Working managers who want a master's qualification without two years of study.

  • Professionals in finance, logistics or general management who want a subject-specific diploma first.

  • Anyone who wants a recognised qualification at the halfway point, rather than all or nothing.

It suits you less if you want a research career. Then a full two-year master's is usually the better fit.

Questions to ask Achievers before you enrol

  1. Is the diploma I choose accepted for the University of Portsmouth MBA top-up?

  2. How are classes scheduled for working professionals: weekdays, evenings or weekends?

  3. What is the total fee for the diploma and the top-up together?

  4. How is the diploma assessed: assignments, exams or both?

Fees and intakes

Fees for the diplomas and the MBA top-up are not yet listed in the Uplift catalogue. Achievers notes that it opens several intakes through the year. Check the current fee and next intake on each course page.

Frequently asked questions

Which diploma should I choose?
