View Nawaloka College of Higher Studies on UpliftMany students want a university route with smaller classes and a clear next step. Nawaloka College of Higher Studies, with campuses in Colombo and Kandy, builds much of its offer around that idea. This guide explains what the college lists on Uplift, how each programme works and what you need to join.
Pathways to Swinburne University of Technology
UniLink diplomas
The UniLink diplomas are university pathway programmes. Each one runs for eight months and prepares you for a bachelor's degree at Swinburne University of Technology. Four fields are listed: Business, Engineering, Health Science and Information Technology.
After you complete the diploma, you can progress into the second year of selected Swinburne degrees, so the diploma saves time on the full degree. The Engineering diploma mentions advanced standing of up to one year. Classes are small and include academic and English support.
Fees listed on Uplift are tuition of LKR 1,000,000 for the Business diploma and LKR 1,083,000 each for the Health Science and Information Technology diplomas, with an application fee of LKR 150,000 for each. No fee is listed for the Engineering diploma. Check current figures with the college.
Entry requires satisfactory completion of at least three A/L subjects, or an equivalent such as a recognised Australian foundation programme completed in Sri Lanka. You also need a C grade in O/L English or an equivalent English result. The course pages describe three intakes each year, in February, June and October. Ask the college which one is open when you apply.
Swinburne Foundation Year
The Swinburne Foundation Year lasts six months. It gives you a broad introduction to business, engineering and IT, and it builds study and language skills. If you complete it and meet the entry criteria, you become eligible for your preferred degree at Swinburne. If you prefer to stay in Sri Lanka, the course page says you can continue through the UniLink diploma programmes at NCHS.
UK degree pathway
The UK Degree Pathway, also called the International Foundation Year, is run with Study Group. It lasts eight months. After you complete it, you become eligible to transfer to a Study Group partner university in the UK and begin Year 1 of your chosen degree. The curriculum covers business and information technology topics and builds English and research skills.
Entry needs grade C in six O/L subjects, or grade D in two A/L subjects, plus a C grade in O/L English Language or Appreciation of English Literary Texts. If your results are pending, the course page advises you to consult NCHS.
USA transfer programme
The USA Degree Transfer Program is a 2+2 structure. You complete up to two years of a US-style degree, worth up to 60 credits, in Sri Lanka and then move to a partner university in the United States or Canada. A 1+3 option lets you move after one year. You choose a major in Year 3.
Entry needs five O/L passes at grade C or above including English and Mathematics. If you have not passed Mathematics, the college offers a Maths 45 module that you must pass at grade C. English proficiency means an O/L C grade, or IELTS 5.5 overall with no band below 5.0. Because this pathway is built to finish overseas, think carefully about cost and plans before you choose it.
