TL;DR Scholarships for Sri Lankan students at Uplift partner institutes are mostly merit discounts, A/L result awards and instalment plans, and every institute sets its own terms. This guide sets out what each partner's Uplift page states today and what to ask before you pay a deposit.

Most private institutes do not publish one fixed scholarship table, because awards change with each intake and program. Read this alongside our guides to degree fees in Sri Lanka and the student loan scheme, and see how to apply for a degree through Uplift.

Which scholarships for Sri Lankan students do partner institutes offer?

The statements below come from each institute's Uplift page. They describe the type of support, not a guaranteed award, so confirm the current terms with the institute.

Nursing programs at KIU University

KIU University

KIU University lists a detailed scheme on its Uplift page. Its A/L results scholarship is granted on GCE A/L results and can reduce course fees by up to 30%.

For nursing students, KIU lists scholarships based on NTS rank and Island rank, offered up to NTS 3rd place and Island rank 10th place. It also lists early bird discounts at every intake for registrations completed before the specified date, and a discount for nursing students it calls Suwaviruvo.

KIU adds an MBA discount for Tri Forces members and names BOC and HNB under bank loans. Students who want the MBA can read our guide to the MBA in Management Strategy at KIU.

Asian Institute of Business and Science

The Asian Institute of Business and Science (AIBS) lists merit-based scholarships, with a figure of up to 50% mentioned in promotions. It also lists partner university scholarships and early intake or performance-based discounts, all subject to terms.

AIBS states that flexible payment plans and instalment facilities are available. Ask which of these apply to your program, because a promotional figure may cover only some intakes.

Colombo International Campus

Colombo International Campus (CIC) lists early-bird scholarships, with up to 50% mentioned, along with merit-based and need-based scholarships. Its payment page mentions flexible payment plans and bank partners for instalments.

Achievers International Campus

Achievers International Campus lists merit-based scholarships for high-achieving students and need-based financial assistance for eligible applicants. It states that scholarship options can change with each intake and program, and that instalment plans are available on many courses.

Nawaloka College of Higher Studies

At Nawaloka College of Higher Studies, scholarships are awarded on academic performance, extracurricular achievements and leadership qualities, not on the course you pick. A limited number are available each semester, and recommendations are reviewed by the college's scholarship committee and approved by its board.

Lanka Nippon BizTech Institute

The Lanka Nippon BizTech Institute describes installment plans and help with approved student bank loan schemes. It also lists fully funded Japan internships with partner Japanese IT companies for eligible students in the third year, covering visa arrangements, accommodation, living expenses and return airfare.

ESOFT Uni and Universal College Lanka

The Uplift pages for ESOFT Uni and Universal College Lanka do not state scholarship terms at the time of writing. Ask each institute directly rather than assuming that none exist.

When should you ask about a scholarship?

Ask at the enquiry stage, before you accept an offer or pay a deposit. Awards that depend on A/L results, interviews or early registration usually carry a deadline, so ask for that date in writing. If you are comparing two institutes, ask both the same questions so the offers can be set side by side.

Keep every reply. A scholarship that is only promised on a call is hard to claim later, while a letter or email states the basis, the size and the conditions.

How do you compare scholarship offers?

Use the same checks on every offer.

  • Basis: A/L results, interview, financial need or early registration.

  • Size: a percentage of tuition, a fixed amount or an instalment plan.

  • Scope: whether it applies to every program or only one, and whether it applies to every intake.

  • Conditions: a minimum grade to keep it, and what happens if you fall below it.

  • Paperwork: the letter or form that confirms the award before you pay.

Compare the fee after the award, not the headline percentage. Our business study area and health science study area pages show the programs each institute lists, including nursing programs and accounting programs.

What about scholarships at state universities?

State university schemes follow their own rules and are outside Uplift's partner listings. A University of Colombo scholarship page describes its SeKuRa scheme as open to Sri Lankan students at State Universities, so check that page and your university's student welfare office for current terms.

Frequently asked questions

Do private institutes in Sri Lanka offer scholarships?

Yes, several do. KIU University, AIBS, Colombo International Campus, Achievers International Campus and Nawaloka College of Higher Studies each describe merit-based or need-based support on their Uplift pages. Terms differ by institute and intake.

How much of the fee can a scholarship cover?

KIU University states up to 30% off course fees for its A/L results scholarship. AIBS and Colombo International Campus mention figures of up to 50% in promotions, so ask for the written terms before you rely on that number.

Can I get a scholarship for nursing in Sri Lanka?

KIU University lists scholarships for nursing students based on NTS rank and Island rank, plus a Suwaviruvo discount. Ask KIU which program each award applies to.

Are instalment plans the same as scholarships?

No. An instalment plan spreads the same fee over time, while a scholarship reduces the fee. Many institutes offer both, so ask for the total after any award.

PS. Shortlist two or three programs, ask each institute for its scholarship terms in writing, then explore programs on Uplift and compare the fee after the award.
