TL;DR: To apply for a degree in Sri Lanka through Uplift, find a program, check that your O/L and A/L results meet the entry requirement on its course page, then press Apply now and complete the application form. Where an institute has agreed to it, you can receive a conditional offer letter in real time. Keep your results and identity documents ready before you start.

Choosing a program is the hard part. Applying should be simple. This guide walks through the steps on Uplift so you know what to prepare, what happens next and what to ask the institute.

Before you start

Gather the following so the form does not stall:

  • Your O/L results, and your A/L results if you have them.

  • A copy of your national identity card or passport.

  • Proof of English level if the program asks for one, such as an O/L English grade or an IELTS score.

  • A mobile number and email you check every day.

Entry rules differ by program. Read the entry section on the course page before you pick up the form.

Find a program

Search by study area, institute or level. The cards below show programs you can open and apply to today.

If you are not sure where to begin, our guide on how to choose a local degree helps you narrow down, and the guide to degree fees in Sri Lanka explains how to read the cost on a course page.

Check the course page

Every course page shows the same things. Read them in this order:

  1. The duration and study mode, for example full-time.

  2. The awarding institute, which is the university that issues the qualification.

  3. The entry requirement for O/L and A/L results.

  4. The fee, where one is listed.

  5. The intake dates, where they are listed.

If a fee or an intake date is missing, the page tells you to confirm it with the institute. Do that before you pay anything.

Press Apply now

The Apply now link on the course page opens the application for that program. You enter your details and submit the form as it asks. The link sits on every course page, so you never need to search for the form.

Receive an offer letter

Some institutes on Uplift have agreed to issue a conditional offer letter through the platform. Where this applies, you can receive it in real time after you apply. A conditional offer means the institute accepts you on the condition that you meet the entry requirement, for example by presenting your results.

Where an institute has not agreed to this, it contacts you after your application. Either way, keep your phone and email open.

What happens after you submit

The institute reviews your application against the entry requirement. Depending on the institute, you may get a conditional offer letter straight away, or the admissions team may call or write to you. Reply quickly to any request for documents, because seats and intakes can fill.

Parents are welcome to read the course page and sit in on calls. Ask the institute to explain the fee, the payment plan and the awarding university in plain terms.

Confirm and prepare

Once you have an offer, read the conditions line by line. Ask the institute these questions:

  1. What is the total tuition fee and the payment plan?

  2. When does the intake start, and what is the last date to confirm?

  3. Which university awards the qualification?

  4. Which documents must I bring on the first day?

A simple checklist

  • Entry rule matched against your own results.

  • Fee and payment plan confirmed with the institute.

  • Intake date and last confirmation date noted.

  • Awarding university named on the offer.

  • Documents scanned and saved in one folder.

Common mistakes to avoid

Applying before checking entry rules

A program that asks for Science stream passes will not accept a Commerce stream result. Save time by checking first.

Ignoring the English requirement

Many programs list an O/L English grade or an IELTS score. If you lack it, ask whether the institute offers an English course. Our guide to the English course in Sri Lanka covers the levels.

Waiting for a perfect choice

Shortlist a few programs and compare their entry rules, fees and start dates before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cost anything to search or compare on Uplift?

Searching and comparing programs on Uplift does not carry a charge. Institutes may charge an application fee, which appears on the course page where listed.

Can I apply with pending A/L results?

Some institutes accept applications while results are pending and tell you what to do next. Check the course page, then ask the institute.

What if I am not sure which program fits?

Start with the guides on what to do after A/L results and study options with low A/L results.

Do I need to pay before I get an offer?

Follow the course page and the institute's instructions. Never pay anyone outside the channels the institute names on the page.

PS. Ready? Pick a program, check the entry rules and press Apply now.
