TL;DR: Degree fees in Sri Lanka depend on the institute, the awarding university and the format. On Uplift, a Kingston engineering degree at ESOFT Uni lists LKR 1,420,000 in total tuition, and a London Metropolitan computing degree lists LKR 1,620,000. Always separate tuition from the application fee and check the course page.

Parents and students ask the same question first: how much does a private degree cost? A single average would mislead you, because programs differ in length, level and format.

This guide shows how to read a fee on Uplift and gives real examples, each taken from a named program page.

Tuition and application fee are different

Every Uplift program page can list two kinds of fee. The tuition fee is the cost of the course. The application fee is a separate charge made when you apply.

For example, the Kingston BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering at ESOFT Uni lists LKR 1,420,000 in total tuition and a LKR 25,000 application fee. When you compare programs, compare tuition with tuition.

Check what the fee covers

A fee can be quoted as a total for the whole program or per year. The page states the payment period. A fee labelled total covers the full duration. Also check the format, because some pages list one fee for weekday and weekend classes together.

Examples from named programs

These are examples, not a price list. Fees change, so confirm each one on the program page.

Bachelor's degrees at ESOFT Uni

  • BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering, Kingston University (UK): LKR 1,420,000 total tuition, three years.

  • BSc (Hons) in Computing, London Metropolitan University (UK): LKR 1,620,000 total tuition, three years, weekend and blended format.

  • BA (Hons) in Hospitality Management, London Metropolitan University (UK): LKR 1,420,000 total tuition, three years.

Top-up degrees

A top-up is a short final-year route for students who already hold a diploma or HND. The BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies (Top Up) at ESOFT Uni lists LKR 750,000 in total tuition for a one-year, weekend format. Our top-up degree guide explains who it suits.

Pathway programs

The British Foundation Programme at Universal College Lanka lists LKR 475,000 for a ten-month full-time course. The Diploma of Information Technology (UniLink) at Nawaloka lists LKR 1,083,000 for eight months.

Master's programs

The Master of Science in Data Science from Kingston University (UK), taught at ESOFT Uni, lists LKR 790,000 in total tuition. The MSc Cyber Security at Universal College Lanka lists LKR 325,000 for a twelve-month full-time course.

Why the same level can cost different amounts

Fees vary for honest reasons. The awarding university may differ, the duration may differ, and the format can change the cost. A longer degree such as a four-year honours program is not directly comparable with a three-year degree on price alone.

When a program page shows no fee, the institute has not supplied one. In that case, check the current fee with the institute on its Uplift page. Never rely on a guess.

Ways to plan the cost

  • Ask whether the fee is a total or per year.

  • Ask what the application fee covers.

  • Ask whether a payment plan is offered.

  • Read about the student loan scheme guide and check whether your program is eligible.

For a full institute view with fees, see the ESOFT Uni courses and fees guide.

A simple fee comparison sheet

Before you decide, write one line per program with the same five details. This keeps the comparison fair.

  • Program name and awarding university.

  • Duration and study format.

  • Tuition fee and whether it is a total or per year.

  • Application fee.

  • Anything the page says is not included.

Spotting an incomplete comparison

If you can only fill in four of the five lines, the page is missing information. Do not guess the rest. Ask the institute, and keep the answer in writing.

Fees are one part of the decision

A lower fee is not automatically better value, and a higher fee is not automatically better quality. Look at the entry rules, the awarding university, the format and where the qualification leads. Then use the fee to decide what you can afford, with a plan for the full duration and not only the first payment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between tuition and an application fee?

Tuition pays for the course. The application fee is charged separately when you apply.

Are the fees in this guide final?

No. They are examples taken from program pages. Confirm the current fee before you apply.

Why do some programs show no fee?

The institute may not have shared one yet. Ask the institute through Uplift.

Can I pay in installments?

Some institutes offer payment options. Ask before you enrol.

PS. Shortlist two or three programs, open each page, and compare tuition, application fee and format side by side on Uplift.
