TL;DR. Engineering courses in Sri Lanka start at foundation and diploma level and run up to honours degrees and master's programs, so the right route depends on your O/L and A/L results. Uplift lists engineering foundation years, pathway diplomas and BEng (Hons) degrees at partner institutes, with fees and entry rules on each course page.
Engineering draws students from different backgrounds, but the routes do not ask for the same results. Some programs expect Mathematics and Physics at the A/L, while others accept O/L results and add a foundation year first. This guide sorts the routes listed on Uplift by where you are now, so you can see what is open to you.
What engineering courses can you study in Sri Lanka?
Uplift groups these programs under the engineering technology study area. Within it you will find civil, mechanical, electrical and electronic, biomedical and mechatronic engineering, among others. The levels are:
Foundation years and pathway diplomas that prepare you for a degree.
BEng (Hons) degrees, usually three years full-time at the programs listed here.
Master's programs for graduates who want to specialise.
Which engineering degrees can you study at ESOFT Uni?
ESOFT Uni lists BEng (Hons) degrees awarded by Kingston University (UK) in civil, mechanical, electrical and electronic, and electronic and communication engineering. Each course page shows a duration of 3 years full-time and tuition of LKR 1,420,000 in total, with a separate application fee of LKR 25,000.
- BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering
- BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering
- BEng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- BEng (Hons) in Electronic and Communication Engineering
Entry asks for three A/L passes, preferably including Mathematics, Physics or Combined Mathematics, or an equivalent foundation qualification. The course pages also accept an HND or an equivalent Level 5 qualification in a related field. The BEng (Hons) in Biomedical Engineering is awarded by London Metropolitan University, shows tuition of LKR 1,620,000 in total, and begins with a Foundation Diploma in Applied Sciences that is accepted as an alternative to A/Ls.

How can you start engineering without A/L Mathematics?
A foundation year or pathway diploma is the usual answer.
The Foundation Year in Engineering at ESOFT Uni runs for a year, shows tuition of LKR 710,000 in total, and asks for an O/L qualification or equivalent. A/L results are not required for this non-traditional pathway.
The Diploma of Engineering (UniLink) at Nawaloka College of Higher Studies runs for 8 months full-time and is awarded through Swinburne University of Technology. Entry asks for three A/L subjects.
The Monash College Diploma of Engineering at Universal College Lanka runs for 12 months full-time with tuition of LKR 2,100,000 in total. The page describes direct entry into the second year of an Engineering degree at Monash University in Australia.
Check which degrees a pathway leads to, and at what grade, before you pay. The course page names the awarding university, but each university sets its own conditions.
