TL;DR Lanka Nippon BizTech Institute, known as LNBTI, is a Sri Lankan institute on Uplift that teaches ICT honours degrees in English, with Japanese language study built into the course. Its campus is in Maharagama, and Uplift currently lists its BSc (Hons) Software Engineering, a four-year degree for students with A/L results. This guide covers entry routes, the study structure and how to apply, using the program details on Uplift.
Students who like computing and want an extra language skill often look at LNBTI. You can compare it with other options in the software engineering programs inside the wider computing study area.
What is Lanka Nippon BizTech Institute?
LNBTI operates from its main campus at 278 High Level Road, Maharagama, in the Western Province, within easy reach of Colombo. Its institute page on Uplift lists modern classrooms, a library, an e-learning system, student counselling, clubs and societies, and spaces for Japanese cultural activities.
The institute says it offers ICT honours degrees in Software Engineering and in Computing (Information Systems), plus a Bachelor of Information Technology. It teaches every degree fully in English, including lectures, assignments and examinations. Professional level Japanese language training runs through the course alongside the technical subjects.
Which LNBTI degree is listed on Uplift?
Uplift currently lists the BSc (Hons) Software Engineering at Lanka Nippon BizTech Institute, a four-year full-time degree. The program page says it is approved by the Ministry of Education under the Universities Act.
The curriculum follows the undergraduate computing guidelines published by the Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE. It also follows the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework, and the JF Standard for Japanese Language Education for the language units. Subjects include software development, databases, software architecture and testing, networking, cyber security, and cloud computing, as well as Japanese language and Japanese business practices.
A bridging course is part of the structure for students who did not study the Physical Science or ICT streams. Our earlier guide to the LNBTI software engineering degree covers that program in more depth.
What are the LNBTI entry requirements?
The program page sets out two A/L routes, and you need one of them.
Three simple passes in the Physical Science or ICT subject streams, all in the same sitting, or an equivalent qualification. No bridging course is needed on this route.
Three simple passes in any stream in the same sitting, together with a bridging course approved by the Specified Authority. This route is for Arts, Commerce, Biological Science and Technology students.
On both routes you also need credit passes in Mathematics and English at the G.C.E. O/L. A student who has not yet met the O/L requirement can still enrol, and has to complete it within the first year of the degree. After O/Ls, the institute describes a five-year pathway that begins with a foundation year, so ask LNBTI about it if you have not sat the A/L yet.
How do fees, payment and funding work?
Tuition fees at LNBTI vary by program and by intake period, and they are confirmed at enrolment. The institute offers instalment plans and helps eligible students with applications to approved bank loan schemes. No fee is listed for this program in the data we reviewed, so open the course page on Uplift and ask the institute for the current figure.
The institute also describes funded third-year internships with partner Japanese IT companies for eligible students. It says the funding covers visa arrangements, accommodation, living expenses and return airfare. Eligibility is decided by the institute, so ask what the selection steps are before you count on it.
