TL;DR ACCA Sri Lanka students follow the same global ACCA Qualification as everyone else: exams at three levels, an ethics module and 36 months of verified practical experience. If you have A/L passes or an equivalent, you normally start at the first level, Applied Knowledge. If you have no qualifications to claim, ACCA offers Foundations in Accountancy as an entry point.
ACCA is a global professional accountancy body. This guide explains the structure from ACCA's own pages, what the experience requirement means, and how a Sri Lankan degree or HND can sit alongside it.

What is ACCA Sri Lanka and how does the qualification work?
ACCA describes three elements of the qualification: exams at three levels, the Ethics and Professional Skills module, and practical experience. Students normally move through the levels in order, from Applied Knowledge to Applied Skills and then Strategic Professional, with exemptions where ACCA grants them. Check the ACCA website for the exact sequencing rules that apply to you.
What are the three ACCA levels?
Applied Knowledge
The first level covers Business and Technology, Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. These are the papers abbreviated BT, FA and MA.
Applied Skills
The second level builds technical skills across Corporate and Business Law, Taxation, Financial Reporting, Performance Management, Financial Management and Audit and Assurance.
Strategic Professional
The final level has two compulsory papers, Strategic Business Reporting and Strategic Business Leader, plus two options chosen from Advanced Financial Management, Advanced Audit and Assurance, Advanced Taxation and Advanced Performance Management.
ACCA has published information on a future version of the qualification, so check the current structure on the ACCA website before you register or plan your timetable.
Who can start ACCA and where do you enter?
ACCA says that students with A levels or an equivalent typically start directly on the ACCA Qualification at Applied Knowledge. Students without those qualifications can begin with Foundations in Accountancy and then progress. Entry details change, so confirm the rule that applies to your results with ACCA when you register.
Exemptions are granted by ACCA only on the basis of qualifications, never on work experience. A university degree or diploma may earn exemptions from some papers if ACCA accepts it, so ask ACCA, not only your institute, before you assume a paper is covered.
What is the practical experience requirement?
ACCA membership needs 36 months of experience in one or more accounting or finance related roles, verified by a supervisor. The supervisor must be a qualified accountant recognised by law in your country or a member of an IFAC body. You also complete nine performance objectives, five Essentials and four Technical.
Time spent on an extended career break does not count. ACCA says that doing the experience alongside the exams can lead to membership in three to four years, which is why many students take a job in accounts while studying.
