Mechatronic Engineering sits between mechanical, electronic and computer systems engineering, and this Curtin degree is taught at Curtin Colombo over four years of full-time study. It suits students interested in automation, robotics and smart systems. After the common engineering first year, you study a microcontroller project, machine dynamics, electrical circuits, digital design, data structures and algorithms, and a mechatronics design project. In Year 3 the degree adds a robot manipulation project, computer-aided drawing and modelling, intelligent agents, embedded systems and an introduction to autonomous robots. Year 4 covers machine learning, dynamic modelling and control, a mechatronics automation project and a two-part research project. Curtin lists hands-on work such as mobile robot communications, pneumatic automation and machine control. The degree is accredited in Australia by Engineers Australia. Roles named include mechatronic engineer, automation engineer, computer systems engineer and data scientist, in fields such as aerospace, manufacturing, robotics, energy and biotechnology.
