Mechanical engineering covers the design, analysis and development of systems, from micromechanical devices and turbines to transport and biomedical technologies. This Curtin degree is taught at Curtin Colombo over four years full-time and combines theory with industry experience. After the shared first year, Year 2 covers computer-aided drawing, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, machine dynamics, mechanical design, thermodynamics and manufacturing processes. Year 3 builds on this with advanced strength of materials, heat transfer, vibrations, applied fluid mechanics, machine design and exposure to professional engineering practice. In Year 4 you take electromechanical energy systems, systems engineering design, automatic control systems and an individual research project in two parts. Curtin mentions emerging areas such as renewable energy and biomedical engineering. The degree is accredited by Engineers Australia. Listed careers include mechanical engineer, mechanical design engineer, aeronautical engineer and mechatronic engineer, in industries such as automotive, manufacturing, power generation, marine, aerospace and water supply.
