Horizon CampusThis four-year honours degree trains teachers of biological sciences. It is taught by the Faculty of Education at Horizon Campus over eight semesters with 120 credits, and it follows the local Sri Lankan school curriculum alongside international teacher education practice. Each year pairs professional education modules with subject study. The education strand covers philosophical, psychological and sociological foundations, teaching methods, guidance and counselling, classroom management, child rights, curriculum theories and research methods. The science strand covers cellular biology, evolution and diversity of organisms, plant and animal form and function, microbiology, genetics, environmental biology and several chemistry modules, with electives in areas such as immunology, applied ecology and food technology. Teaching practice and a portfolio in year four are followed by a dissertation. The campus describes the course as suitable for prospective teachers, serving teachers and education sector managers in state and non-state institutions, with a stated aim of building child-centred teaching, educational research and scientific investigation skills.
